Finding a hobby you enjoy will help with that. Hobbies allow your brain to work in a way that maybe it hasn't in some time. When you take your focus away from your worries and stresses by doing a crossword puzzle, a physical activity or painting, you change the chemical makeup of your brain and body for the better. By participating in your hobbies regularly, you can help battle depression, anxiety and sluggishness. Hobbies provide balance — In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the key to overall well-being and happiness is balance. When you work too many long hours, you lose out on time you could be spending with your family or friends. When you spend too many nights drinking and socializing, you spend hours recovering when you could be going biking. People are constantly seeking a state called homeostasis, or balance, and when we participate in the things we enjoy while making time for other areas in our life, we're able to increase our overall happiness and confidence in ourselves. Slow the aging process — Age and stagnation can take their toll on mental and physical function. Hobbies help keep your mind and body active, which prevent the onset of physical ailments, such as arthritis, and mental illnesses, including dementia. Playing the piano, gardening, sewing and other activities have all been proven to counteract age-related conditions. Improve self-confidence — Hobbies are a low-risk way to try something new. When you focus on a specific activity, or try a new hobby, you'll be filled with a sense of pride. When we work the brain in different ways, we find that we can approach tasks from different perspectives because we train our minds to accomplish different tasks.
